    I'm not sure what the ratings are, but if Gaf is any indication, you're not as popular as you once were. But don't let that deter you! You're podcast is better than all the general interest ones out there (the Slate dot com podcasts are just a little better, but their focus isn't video games), and a bazillion times better than Listen Up or the Giant Bombcast; you're easily more articulate, educated, well-read, and interesting than GARNETT LEE!

    Glad to see another podcast this week. I just want to say that your discussions on games, culture, politics, etc. make for one of my favorite podcasts. You guys pull off the high minded discussions way better than any other gaming podcast, keep up the great work!

    I'm pretty sure The Wire kid was given half the money upfront--and then cussed out when his friends realized he was actually working for it when he could just throw the flyers away and divide the money among him and his friends.

    N'Gai seems to be the only one who comes prepared and provides direction to the the discussions, which I appreciate. He's also the ONLY one who actually argues with Shawn Elliott--something that NEVER happened on GFW radio. That alone makes him more valuable than Luke, the guy who never talks because he's never there.

    I'm also wondering what the heck is going on with Luke Smith. He rarely is present for the show, and when he is it seems as though he wishes he were somewhere else. A far cry from his days on the 1-Up Yours podcast. Does he feel hamstrung by things he's not allowed to talk about (due to his employment at Bungie), or is he going through a depression. I'm not trying to hate, I'm honestly curious.

    Jay, I think that GAF might be indicative of the popularity. However, the drop might be:
    1. They just released another episode 8 days ago
    2. This might be overshadowed by ALWW this week.

    The Wire:
    My coworker is a big CSI fan, so I've been bugging him for the past year to watch The Wire. Finally, I gave him my copy of S1. He started watching and couldn't stop. He went on to get the full box set from ebay.

    Another Wire tidbit: IMDB score is 9.7 with 20K votes. Shawshank is the top rated movie at 9.2. That gives you an idea of what people think of it.

    24's portrayal of justified torture is ridiculous. A) the CIA's own handbooks (distributed to foreign assets and now freedom-of-information-acted onto the Internet) have long stated that torture is an entirely ineffective method of intelligence gathering due to the fact that under intense physical or mental stress a subject will fabricate what they believe the torturer wants just to make it stop. Pain as abjection destroys the self and dislocates the victim from the social world-and thus language loses meaning and becauses naught but beastial sounds. It creates living corpses. B) sociologist Foucault discusses the nature of torture, particularly public torture, as a symbolic reinforcment of the state's ability to enact justice with impunity- transmitted through the relationship between the soveriegn (king/queen/etc), the victim and the audience. By removing the audience the illusion of impunity is lost and bauer's actions thus reveal the state's inability to enact justice therefore undermining his justification for torture- i.e the maintainence of the state. C) when in history has there ever been a ticking bomb Scenario? And individual or organization which is committed to a major terrorist attack would die rather than give up information, not to mention the issue of validation once again... All in all torture is abhorent, ineffective and undermining for those who utilize it. Shows like 24 have come some way in naturalizing torture as a weapon of the patriotic, hardboiled lawman but instead of taking 24's word for it maybe try listening to the accounts of torture victims from the French algierian conflict or the Argentinian 'disappeared'...

    N'Gai was getting very to the money with his 24/US policy discussion. It's not as if 24 influences policy, but programs us to accept it as normal. 24 and almost every other piece of mainstream media are used as a way of desensitizing us for what the government is going to do next. They've been doing it for ever.

    Think about it. A TV in almost every home, that almost everyone watches. Most Americans are basically given their view points by TV. Who controls the TV, Radio, Hollywood....the ones with the money.

    Keep watching as more freedoms are lost and TV makes us feel like its normal and ok. It's called predictive programming.

    A game that I try (in vain) to get people to try is EVE Online. All I hear is people complaining about MMOs not being innovative enough, or how there are no sucessful MMOs other than WoW. Well, EVE has been growing every year since its release, it's nothing like WoW, it's single server and doesn't have levels.

    The best thing about it is that it focuses on actual interaction between people. It's not about finishing raid x, it's about conquering OTHER people. There's so much that it does that's just miles ahead of any other MMO yet it goes ignore and nobody seems to learn any lessons from it. Now they're even making a console shooter to tie into their internet spaceship game, how awesome is that?!

    I mean, you guys didn't even mention it in your MMO discussion. That's the way it goes

    Another game is Myth II which is, despite being 10 years old, one of the best RTSes ever and I never hear it referenced anywhere. Seriously, I played it for the first time like 1 or 2 years ago and that game is insanely good especially for how old it is

    For the love of god don't talk about games. I'm not sure if you have in this podcast as I've not listened yet, but your E3 podcast was boring and those people who want you to talk about games more are fools and I hope they choke.

    Also good job on the podcasts, they have been fantastic. Except the E3 one as I've mentioned.

    Lol. Gladstone was a total doosh on the brodeo. On the bright side, I did manage to learn the definition of the word "waja" (sp?) thanks to gladstone. Every time Shawn Elliot would VERY passively confront the idiot on the show I would always feel a little awkward through the radio.

    Gladstone should be thankful. Elliot and Green never played directly contrarian to Gladstone on GFW, even though on certain occasions it was somewhat obvious that they clearly disagreed with the words coming out of the moron's mouth.
