Shawn, if you haven't read it yet, Predictably Irrational is an interesting behavioral economics book that includes a lot of experiments like you were talking about. I listened to the audiobook not long ago and enjoyed it a lot.

To N'Gai's point on reading about music as you listen to it, I have been doing the same thing lately. Check out "The Pitchfork 500," a book from the founders and reviewers of the the music site www.pitchfork.com. The book chronicles the 500 essential songs from '77 punk to modern times. I highly recommend picking up the book and finding the playlist somehow. The writing and music selection are both excellent thus far.
Loved the discussion about music - its interesting to note that the artists involved in creating some of the most acclaimed albums in music sometimes hotly dispute the effect of their drug intake on most of their output. The Beatles have gone on record saying they felt the positive impact of drugs on the majority of their material was minimal, and recent study on Exile on Main St in particular credits Mick Jagger with saving the record by almost entirely re-recording and rewriting it in LA. The notion that Exile is a product of Keith's habit and his French basement is a nice legend that sells records, it seems.
Another great show guys! Let's hope that guy doesn't listen to your podcast and kill himself.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Anvil documentary, Jeff. It was both funny and painful to watch at times, but by the end I was moved to tears. Like all good documentaries, it got me thinking about much more than just the subject matter. Everyone should see this.

The saddest thing is that all that ripping on poor Ramses' (or whatever his name is)writing style could be focused on over 90% of game reviewers. I love Garnet Lee's podcast on 1up, but check out his recent Battlefield review. Some choice segments:

Another great rock documentary is Driver 23/Atlas Moth. It focuses on one Dan Cleveland who is a mix of good old Mike Schank and MacGuyver. The guy fancies himself a genius musician and inventor but doesn't ever reach beyond remedial status at either venture. Of course, his complete lack of self-awareness makes this incredibly endearing.

Watching the Anvil trailer, I have to say I figured it was a Spinal Tap mockumentary clone. It doesn't help that one of the guys is actually named Robb Reiner. I figured all the cameos with real metal guys was all set up. Same situations, same reactions, same rocker personalities. I would never have guessed it was a real story. Art imitates life imitates art.
On the other hand, This is Spinal Tap may have been too realistic. From Wikipedia:

Before doing a zombie show, I hope someone'll have had a look at Gart Ennis' take on Zombie fiction in his comic book series 'Crossed', published by Avatar. It's something else because it does away with the asperger nerd fantasy element of most zombie fiction to restore some normal person sense of horror at the prospect of the world ending in such a manner.
(also, the wraparound cover for issue 1 has to be seen to be believed)
On the subject of achieving greatness at certain ages I think that these most frequently happen not just before 30 but also after 60.
Before 30 you've got everything to gain, after 60 you've got nothing to lose and inbetween life has a lot of other things (not so much things as people; family) that take a lot of importance and require much more practicality and personal sacrifice.
Specifically I'm thinking about Will Eisner. When he was young he made the Spirit. When he was old he made A Contract with God and the other graphic novels after that. Inbetween he made illustrations for the army and did other 'real' work.
Then there are painters and directors who find renewed drive or freedom in or for their creativity at a late stage in their lives that seem brighter then their achievements when they were young. Even actors.
But from my limited knowledge in the music medium it does seem that in this modern age few musicians manage to find either a first or second creative peak in their late life. Now musicians are much more like athletes. When once the composer or director was the one who had the fame, now it's all about the performance.

Don't be too broken up about the Republican comment. I mostly vote Republican (technically I am Libertarian)but in the last years but man these last few years it's been harder and hard to find someone show stood with their convictions. Instead there have been too many who use use their conviction as an excuse for what they want to accomplish. Just look at the Gov. of my fine state of SC.
Anybody interested in rock biographies should watch Blood on the Turntable. It's about the rise and fall of the Stone Roses and their horrible manager. It's not the best made documentary ever, but its interesting for fans of the band and people who are just curious. It's not that long and you can find it on youtube
I have to say that I actually know Andrew Ramsey, and I don't think that his plagiarism was intentional. He does lack formal training and really any type of journalism background. But he is a good friend and just messed up. It just so happened that he messed up big time on this one and it cost him his job. The saddest part was that I found out from listening to the podcast and he didn't even tell me, then again I would be embarrassed to.
If all you can do is hate on people that actually have talent and dont sit around all day and talk shit because they have nothing better to do than sit on the couch and do some stupid ass web radio show, the keyboardist you are talking about in the video is 15 years old and he is making more money now than you ever have doing this poor ass radio show with your virgin friend, remember that its there job and they do make more money than you no matter how they look in a video, show some respect asshole not to mention that none of them are even in their twenties yet.
